Below is a short biography of each member of the team that make GenR8 happen.
Shelley Dring
Shelley is the phenomenal artistic
force within GenR8 and drives a lot of the visual and dynamic art that is
seen in various GenR8 activities. She has designed banners and
artwork and also leads art-based activities on the events. However,
her creativity in planning the events is a huge strength and she often
comes up with more ideas than there is time to do!
Shelley is an
accomplished dancer and has led prophetic dance at worship events such as
Spring Harvest, Spirit in the City (Leeds), and others. She has used
this talent in GenR8 events, and most particularly in Worship through
Movement Workshops she runs under the banner of NorthStar.
Shelley
is also an accomplished musician and will join Kathryn in leading the
music on events. She is also a key figure during the events in
leading activities, prayers and also giving talks on the theme. Her
professional career as a primary teacher and now Educational Officer
within Leeds City Council is invaluable in ensuring that GenR8 maintains
its ‘all-age’ accessibility. She now runs 'Northstar' - which
provides dance and art workshops to churches and schools
She is married
to Nathan.
Nathan Dring
Nathan
brings another creative slant to GenR8 from his talents and experience as
part of Red Balloon, the schools-focussed wing of Saltmine Christian
Theatre Company. He is a huge asset to the team as an enthusiastic
and engaging speaker and he has an enormous desire to preach and share the
Good News of Jesus Christ - he is most definitely the upfront evangelist
of the team.
Nathan has a great love for and knowledge of scripture
which enables GenR8 to be true to its founding aims of being
Biblically-based in all it does. He also brings with this a
fantastic attitude of joy and fun which invigorates not just the planning,
but also the events themselves. He is a Lay Reader in the Church of
England.
He is married to Shelley.
Kathryn Thompson
Kathryn is part of the creative team
in planning the events - suggesting ideas and programmes for GenR8 to
produce. She is an accomplished musician and her primary focus
before and during the events is to lead the planning and provision
of the music used throughout the worship (whether sung or not). She
also takes on a full role like the rest of the team in leading talks,
prayers and other aspects of the events.
She has a
real heart for ensuring that there is full inclusion by all people
attending the events and actively looks for ways in which the ideas and
plans can be flexed to enable everyone to engage with the worship in some
way in each and every event. Most of all, she is a fervent advocate
for encouraging everyone to be able to participate fully in worship and
come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and sees GenR8 as a unique
means of achieving that aim.
She is married to Richard and has two
children, Joel and Hannah.
Richard Thompson
Richard brings an experience of
planning and implementing projects in a business context. He is keen
to maintain the professional approach that GenR8 has adopted from the
start and works on the communication channels and pre- and post-event
publicity in line with those initial high standards. He is
responsible for the website pages and email links and looks to forge links
and relationships with other individuals or teams where GenR8 can help
them or benefit from them.
Like the rest of the team, he brings some
creativity to the project as well. He is working on improving the
graphics and images used by GenR8 as well as being responsible for much of
the available material that GenR8 produces. He is also part of the
event planning and contributes, like others, in creating the events ‘from
scratch’.
Richard is involved in other aspects of the events from
speaking on the theme, leading prayers or providing the welcome at the
beginning of the event, drawing on his experience as a business trainer
and presenter.
He has attended many conferences on leading Christian
groups, including the “Equipped to Lead” course produced by Jeff and Kay
Lucas.
He is married to Kathryn and has two children, Joel and Hannah
(obviously).
Steve Scaife
Steve is responsible for sound during
the events. He and Terry provide the technical input for events and
help to make sure that everything is wired up and working correctly.
However, the team has recently been making great use of his skill as a
worship leader as well and this has had a huge impact on the events.
As a Lay reader in the Church of England he is an excellent communicator
and also provides invaluable thoughts into the planning and execution of
the events.
He is married to Sue.
Sue Scaife
Sue is one of our two main hosts for
the events and therefore has responsibility for the hospitality. Her
primary aim in this is to welcome everyone as they arrive and make them
feel at ease. The role of host is that they are usually the first
members of the team that people see and therefore are vital for the
atmosphere of the event itself.
She is married to Steve.
Terry Crabtree
Terry is responsible for visuals
during the events. He and Steve provide the technical input for
events and help to make sure that everything is wired up and working
correctly. He also brings some fantastic insight to the events and
has often been able to provide prophetic words or images to the
events.
He is married to Lynn.
Lynn Crabtree
Lynn is the other main host for the
events and stands alongside Sue in this role. Together they provide
refreshments before and after the events, but more importantly they give
everyone the friendly welcome to GenR8 which is so important in enabling
people to relax and therefore worship fully.
She is married to
Terry.
